I’m At Least 1/4 MacGuyver

image

When my sister completed our family genealogy some years ago, there were not too many surprises.

Okay, well, maybe one.

I’m a combination of German, Italian, Irish…and MacGuyver.
Not Scottish.
MacGuyver.

That do anything, make everything possible and figureoutable guy from the 90’s TV drama of the same name.

I make the joke that my husband is part MacGuyver with his survival training and uncanny ability to fix anything, and he is, don’t get me wrong.

But so am I, and I’m guessing you are too.

I have MacGuyver’d the shit out of my life.
At times, all I had was my ingenuity. A paperclip, a credit card, and a prayer. But I suppose, with so much MacGuyver in me, my prayer aways ended up being, “Anything Is Possible’.

Darling reader, you’ve read endless stories of my misadventures, and I’m sure it explains a lot, now that you know my MacGuyver lineage, but think back on some of the seemingly insurmountable challenges you’ve encountered.

All the jams you’ve gotten out of.

All the hats you’ve pulled rabbits out of.

The late nights with no sleep.

Driving eighteen hours straight to get where you needed to be.

All the times you never gave up, you made shit happen. With your paperclip and your tenacity.

You’re a fucking Mac Guyver too.

I knew it.

Famous Failures

I don’t fail often but when I do, its alway been BIG. I don’t mess around.
One early marriage,
One ‘all our eggs in one basket’ business,
One interim jewelry job.

Wham, bam, failed.
But it looks like I’m in pretty good company. And if things aren’t looking like they’re going your way right about now — then so are you.

I thought you might like this book on those nights when you can’t sleep because it seems as if the world is spinning backwards and your life doesn’t resemble anything remotely familiar, comforting, or worthy of continuing, and you’re asking yourself “what the fuck?” over and over until it sounds like whatthefuck, whatthefuck, whatthefuck, which sounds like a tiny town in Uzbekistan or one of the other ‘stans’ and that makes you want kebob, but it’s too late to get kebob at this hour, and then that’s all you can think about, and you’re wondering why you didn’t just order kebab before midnight…and you feel like a failure… and the cycle starts all over again. Or maybe that’s just me.

Flashback on Faith

Faith
* This is a flashback from a couple of years ago when my inner poet ran the show. It seems apropos to end this week of tested faith with a poem.
A rhyme about faith and luck and his friend chance; perseverance and truth.
Enjoy your Friday you guys
xox

Some days my faith is huge and bold,
So large an ocean cannot hold.

Then other days, it’s all dried up,
just a drop in the bottom of a paper cup.

I vacillate between the two.
Fate waits to drop the other shoe.

Then luck comes by with his friend chance,
this is my lifetime’s little dance.

Some days an ocean, some days a cup,
I stay the course, I won’t give up.

I play the game, my heart is true,
with faith as my partner, how about you?

MANIFESTO OF THE BRAVE AND BROKENHEARTED by Brene Brown

MANIFESTO OF THE BRAVE AND BROKENHEARTED

There is no greater threat to the critics and cynics and fearmongers Than those of us who are willing to fall Because we have learned how to rise.

With skinned knees and bruised hearts; We choose owning our stories of struggle, Over hiding, over hustling, over pretending.

When we deny our stories, they define us.

When we run from struggle, we are never free. So we turn toward truth and look it in the eye.

We will not be characters in our stories. Not villains, not victims, not even heroes.

We are the authors of our lives. We write our own daring endings.

We craft love from heartbreak, Compassion from shame, Grace from disappointment, Courage from failure.

Showing up is our power.
Story is our way home. Truth is our song. We are the brave and brokenhearted.

We are rising strong.

You’re On The Verge Of A Miracle

image

*HAPPY SUMMER SUNDAY YOU GUYS!
After the week many of us have had, I felt like I needed to show you this recent post from Danielle LaPort. I need the reminder. Shit storm, followed by a miracle. The natural order of things. Good reminder. Whew!

You’re on the verge of a miracle. #Truthbomb elaborations

A Course In Miracles defines a miracle as “a shift in perception.” I love that, because that definition covers a lot of bases. You can choose to believe in spontaneous healing and create a physiological miracle. Or you can simply decide to forgive someone you thought you’d never, ever forgive. “It’ll take a miracle,” you might have thought. But often, the miracle comes from within. And you can create that miracle anytime by changing your mind about something. Let it be easy. Let it be grand. Let it be now. Let it be so.

Elizabeth Gilbert.

I love her. I devour anything she writes.

Her advise to help us navigate failure and success? You do the same thing for both. WHAT!?
Watch. It’s only 7 mins.
It applies to anyone….about any endeavor.
But now, as a writer, this has a whole new meaning for me.

The Power of One

The Power of One

The Power of One

It’s an ancient secret.
A miracle kept under wraps,
for if anyone truly believes it,
they can literally move mountains,
they can change their map.

It starts with an idea,
one simple grain of truth,
that if it attaches itself to you,
and walks with you day and night,
it BECOMES you.

But you cannot dispel it,
or curse it’s inconvenience,
lest it finds another host,
whose arms are open wide,
ready for the call.

They will not get YOUR power,
Not exactly, it’s not the same,
Every person has their talents,
but not everyone’s in the game.

So do not waste time worrying,
for the Power will call again,
because what’s yours is always yours, my friend,
on THAT you can depend.

What will be your power?
will you write or paint or sing?
THOSE are the powers that move mountains, my Darling,
more than the armies of Kings.

If you all knew my lovelies,
Of the powers you possess,
You’d be so busy working magic,
You’d take little time to rest.

Don’t believe it takes a village,
a whole nation starts with one,
The power of one person,
the power to become,
All that God has wished for you,
and written with your hands,
It takes faith, perseverance and fortitude,
to change where a mountain stands.
